A Letter to the Professor

In short: The Count’s end-of-year letter to his rival. The Dracula Diaries are fiction by Escape This; between them the Count and Van Helsing write about once a month, and new entries appear on their dates.

Wednesday. The year ends, and by custom I write the Professor a letter. I never send it. He never replies. It is the most successful relationship I have.

Professor. Another year of your notebook in my guests’ hands, and of my graveyard in Perth and your catacombs in Melbourne pretending not to notice one another. You hand out relics. I hand out lantern light. They argue on both sides of the country and call it a night out.

I note that you write in your diary about once a month, and that I do the same, so that between us the readers are never left long without news. I note also that you are a ghost and I am undead, and that neither of us has any business keeping a diary at all. Yet here we are.

Until the next moon, Professor. Wear a warmer coat. Melbourne is cold, and you, I gather, are permanently so.

— D.

FAQ

What this entry answers

How often do the Count and Van Helsing write?

About once a month between them. Each new entry appears on its own date, written in the Dracula or Van Helsing voice beside the room facts it touches, so the archive grows through the year.

Did Count Dracula and Van Helsing really write these diaries?

No. Both diaries are fiction written by Escape This for fun. The Count and the Professor are the Dracula and Van Helsing escape rooms’ versions of characters from Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel, and the Count’s bat, Reginald, exists only in the diary. The facts beside each entry, such as ages, team sizes and addresses, are real.
