Which House to Visit First

In short: Van Helsing on the two rooms. Dracula (Northbridge, Perth) and Van Helsing (Melbourne CBD) share one story world but have separate sets and puzzles, so either can be played alone or both in any order; neither is announced for Sydney.

Wednesday. A recruit wrote to ask whether she must first defeat the Count in Perth before she may hunt with me in Melbourne. She may not, and she need not.

The two houses are separate. Each has its own graveyard, its own puzzles and its own rules at the door, and a party may play either one alone, or both in any order, and miss nothing. They share a world and a quarrel. That is all.

Another recruit asked whether either of us has crossed to Sydney. Neither has, so far as I know, and nobody has said otherwise. I check. I check often. The Count is fond of travelling by night, and he is not above turning up somewhere new without telling anybody.

If you can manage both, play both. You will see each of us as the other does: he a tyrant with excellent taste, I a dead man with a satchel. We are both right.

FAQ

What this entry answers

How are Dracula and Van Helsing connected?

They share one gothic world. In Dracula you follow Van Helsing’s notebook into the Count’s crypt in Perth; in Van Helsing, in Melbourne, the hunter’s farewell letter admits Dracula survived him and hands his war to you. They are separate rooms with their own sets and puzzles, so you can play either on its own.

Has the Count crossed to Sydney?

No. Dracula plays only in Northbridge, Perth, and Van Helsing only in Melbourne CBD. Escape This hasn’t announced either room for Sydney.
